Volunteers Invited to Help Clean Up State Parks

OLYMPIA – March 28, 2007 – The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission invites volunteer groups to celebrate the spirit of Earth Day in April by participating in Community Partnership Month activities.

Community Partnership Month is a time when enthusiastic volunteers can roll up their sleeves and help their state parks. This also is a perfect opportunity for groups participating in National Youth Service Day (April 20-22) to take advantage of service opportunities available in Washington state parks. Earth Day is April 22.

The activities provide outdoor groups, service organizations, schools and businesses with an opportunity to help revitalize state parks by participating in clean-up and repair projects, as well as trail restorations, litter pickup, facilities repair, weed-clearing and planting native vegetation.

The 94-year-old system is in need of repairs at campgrounds and on eroded hiking trails and old buildings. Community partners will help enhance their communities by restoring neighboring state parks.

To get involved, contact a participating park on the following list. For an updated list of participating parks, visit online at www.parks.wa.gov.
